I am sorry to lead off on this Monday with sad news, but Chuck Caple, Jane Caple’s husband died suddenly in his sleep on Thanksgiving morning. We are all saddened and shocked by Chuck’s untimely death and our love and prayers go out to Jane and to the family. There will be a memorial service this Wednesday at the Boca Grande United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall of the Church. The United Methodist Choir will sing. I remember Chuck so vividly because he was always smiling—never a negative thought or word. He loved music so much and enjoyed listening to the Chorus, even attending many rehearsals. Chuck also sang in the church choir. We will all miss his smiling face and positive personality. I am sure Jane would appreciate any thoughts you might have.
John told me rehearsal went pretty well this past week although he thought the choir portion sounded better than the chorus did. What gives? To be good we all need to learn words and music. That is true barbershop singing—not from a book or from the sheet music but from the heart. To sing that way requires memorization. You just can’t fake it. So get on those notes and words and have a great rehearsal this Wednesday.

I was so pleased to have seen all of you at yesterday's rehearsal. I thought the chorus sounded very good. Now the key will be to learn the words and music so that Sarah can concentrate on the nuances--that's the key to good barbershop singing. It's the nuances, and unless you know the words and the notes cold, you will be spending most of your time searching for them and not concentrating on the mood Sarah wants to create.
I just know that this Christmas show will be a hit. John has given out tickets for all to sell, and it is vital that we sell as many as we can. We don't charge people dues to belong to the group or collect a fee for music purchases. We do have ongoing expenses, but we have been fortunate that we have sold enough tickets to our performances to cover them. So sell those babies!
The Christmas show will be on Sunday December 9 at 3pm at the United Methodist Church. That word needs to get out as the flyer I picked up yesterday does not have the place for the concert on it. I will check on the uniform and let you know about that in a future communication.
Welcome to Bob Elliott who will sing bass. We are very glad to have you as a participant, Bob.
Finally, this will be the last e mail you receive directly from me until I return to Florida after Christmas. FOR THE TIME BEING COMMUNICATIONS WILL BE SENT TO A WEBSITE THAT JAC SLIGHT HAS ESTABLISHED. YOU JUST CLICK ON THAT WEBSITE AND YOU WILL GET MY COMMUNICATIONS. WE PASSED OUT INSTRUCTIONS YESTERDAY BUT FOR THOSE WHO DID NOT GET THEM HERE THEY ARE: Type the following address into the top of your internet browser. Then bookmark the page so you can easily refer to it. The address is:
http//www.lbcc-chords.org/boca.html
I need to do this as I am having difficulty making my address book work from Texas. There is no problem with Florida, but we will see how this works, and if it is successful we may just go ahead and do all communications through the website.
I wish each of you a happy Thanksgiving holiday. Stay tuned. Mike
To make things easier, just click on the above address and it will take you to the Boca Grande web page. then you can book mark it for future reference. Jac
